if you get error:
look for milter headers only in common directory

you need to install libmilter-dev

Umm sorry, but what’s your point? spamc is a dependency and is automatically installed along with spamassassin:

Thanks. I’m using dovecot’s sieve plugin to filter spam tagged mails into a dedicated spam folder. In conjunction with blacklists on the MTA-side nearly all mail coming to the inbox is clean, still giving me the chance to inspect the filtered mail for false positives.

Nice idea. Postfix will deliver to spamc and then spamc adds the spam headers, but the email is just passed to dovecot LDA for delivery. The user will just get lots of emails flagged as spam in their mailbox. It won’t be silently dropped by either postfix spamassassin nor dovecot. Pity really.

I just tried the howto from scratch on a fresh system – it works without problems. Just make sure you followed all steps as described (in doubt restart from the beginning).

Ah yeah I remember having seen the “cannot build dccm without sendmail libraries” error before. I’ve no time to investigate on this at the moment but some googling should lead you to the solution. If you were successful it would be nice if you could leave a short note here ;)

Hmm I installed it as mentioned above and it works without problems. Sure you did all steps (like the ./configure) as described? What version of dcc are you running?

I am Using Debian Lenny and I configured the mail server as suggested in the howto on http://workaround.org/ispmail/lenny/ and yours. /var/dss exists and his owner and group is the dcc-user. The homedir is also right. I removed the user and created again. What can I do?

Umm what OS are you running? Did you create the dcc user (useradd) with the same command as suggested above? Should have created /var/dcc as the home directory for the user dcc, so it should have the permissions to write to the directory. Does /var/dcc exist at all?

Nice Howto, but I get an error. /var/log/mail.err says:

Awesome. I too was using the content_filter method, but having spamc pass the scanned message to dovecot LDA directly is way, way better!
