doesn’t work for redmine 1.2 anymore.
Here is a post of workaround I tested on my ubuntu10.4 amd64 server successfully.

This worked for me with the latest version of mod_auth_mysql BUT I had to edit all of the config flags to match what is documented in http://modauthmysql.sourceforge.net/CONFIGURE

No longer works with mod_auth_mysql 3.0.0 and latest versions of redmine using salt+sha1.

Nice write up, using this for managing user access to redmine / svn / internal wiki etc. I’ve updated your view so disabled users in redmine are not granted access:

CREATE VIEW users_auth_external AS
SELECT u.login AS username,
       u.hashed_password AS passwd,
       GROUP_CONCAT(p.identifier) AS groups
FROM `members` m
INNER JOIN users u ON m.user_id = u.id
INNER JOIN projects p ON m.project_id = p.id
WHERE u.status = 1
GROUP BY username
